Accurate Optical Goes Digital With New Lens TechnologyThe Board of Directors of Accurate Optical Company announced today that the company has made an entry into the digital lens manufacturing arena. Accurate Optical is the first independent optometric practice in the country to bring digital lens manufacturing in house, and through an agreement with Gerber Coburn at the end of 2009, acquired the Gerber digital solution: ALPS (Advanced Lens Processing System). The company selected the DTL200 supported by two MAAT polishers. Additionally, a Simplimatic automation module was paired with ALPS to provide a fully automated production line in the company's central lab. Company President and Principal Optometrist Dr. Steven Zeidman said "Accurate Optical has always been at the forefront of eye wear and eye care technology, and this purchase is a logical step towards providing the best possible digital lens options to our patients." Dr. Charles McDonald, Principal Optometrist added "It is an exciting time for all of us. We are now able to provide a free-form product none of our competitors can match in price or quality, while improving delivery time significantly."
The company said it has signed license agreements with Seiko Pentax for the manufacture and distribution of the PERFAS line of digital lenses. "Free-form digital designs allow us to customize lenses to the patients exact prescription and lifestyle needs, and we will continue discussions with other lens manufacturers to increase our lens offerings so as to always ensure the best possible product offerings to our patient population" added Dr. John Lynch, Principal Optometrist.
"The addition of full backside surface digital production is something we have been planning since late 2007," said Stephen Franklin, Chief Executive Officer, "and after visiting many different lab operations and observing production in many successful wholesale environments, we settled on the Gerber Coburn ALPS suite. This fully automated configuration will allow us to not only increase capacity, but we will realize continuous workflow, and a reduction in lens inventory, fixed labor costs, breakage and cost of goods" he added.
